ILCOR INFORMATION

Did you know that the world's leading resuscitation experts will gather in Dallas, TX in January 2005 to discuss the most current emergency cardiovascular care (ECC) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) science?
Their review will culminate with the publication of the 2005 International Consensus on ECC & CPR Science with Treatment Recommendations in November 2005 in the journals Circulation and Resuscitation.

Would you like to be involved in this process?  Over 300 topics are currently being reviewed by scientists, healthcare providers, instructors, and educators from all over the world.  Each review is summarized in a standard "worksheet" and will be posted on an open Internet site for public comment and review starting December 1, 2004.  After reviewing each worksheet you will have the opportunity to email specific comments or questions to be considered for discussion when the Consensus on Science Conference is convened in January 2005.

ABOUT ILCOR

International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR)

The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) was formed in 1992 to provide a forum for liaison between principal resuscitation organisations worldwide. Although the criteria for participation were not closely defined, member organisations were expected to have an accepted remit for creating resuscitation guidelines, preferably for more than one country, and to be multidisciplinary in membership. At present, ILCOR comprises representatives of the American Heart Association (AHA), the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation, the Resuscitation Councils of Southern Africa (RCSA), and the Inter American Heart Foundation (IAHF). The current ILCOR co chairs are Bill Montgomery and Jerry Nolan.

The objectives of the ILCOR are to:

· Provide a forum for discussion and for coordination of all aspects of cardiopulmonary and cerebral resuscitation worldwide.

· Foster scientific research in areas of resuscitation where there is a lack of data or where there is controversy.

· Provide for dissemination of information on training and education in resuscitation.

· Provide a mechanism for collecting, reviewing and sharing international scientific data on resuscitation.

· Produce as appropriate statements on specific issues related to resuscitation that reflect international consensus.

ILCOR meets twice each year usually alternating between a venue in the United States and a venue elsewhere in the world. In collaboration with the AHA, ILCOR produced the first International CPR Guidelines in 2000. Once again, in collaboration with the AHA, ILCOR is now co-ordinating an evidence-based review of resuscitation science, which will culminate in the International Consensus on CPR and ECC Science with Treatment Recommendations Conference in January 2005. The proceedings of this meeting will provide the material for regional resuscitation organisations, such as the ERC, to write their resuscitation guidelines.
